Adopting an animal from the SPCA

Puppies

Do you have room in your life for a special companion? At SPCA Canterbury, we try to ensure that all healthy animals coming into our care are offered the chance to be placed in loving new homes. When we take in homeless or unwanted for animals, we always try to find their owners before we prepare them for adoption. People who surrender these animals are also expected to make a reasonable effort to find the owners. If we take in an owned animal, the owner is expected to make a financial contribution towards its upkeep and getting it ready for adoption.

Forever homes

Our aim is to match the right animal with the right family so that the adoption is permanent and successful. With this in mind, we take time to find out a little about you, your lifestyle, your property and your experience with animals - this is especially the case with the adoption of puppies and dogs. Please take a look through these images below to view some of our special animals currently available for adoption...

Ready to go

We consider it our responsibility to make sure animals adopted from the SPCA are ready to go to new homes. All our cats, kittens, dogs and puppies are vet checked, desexed, vaccinated, microchipped, fleaed, and wormed.

Adoption Fees

We charge a fee for the adoption of our animals. There is no such thing as a free pet and while the fees may seem high, we charge considerably less than the actual cost to care for and prepare our animals for adoption. A responsible pet owner will expect to have ongoing costs throughout their pet’s life so our initial fee is a small price to pay for the love and life-long friendship of a pet.

Adult cat $100 (includes vaccination, desexing, flea and worm treatments)

Kitten $130 (includes vaccination, flea and worm treatments, desexing)

Adult dog or Puppy $220 (includes desexing, vaccination, flea and worm treatments)
Dogs and puppies must be registered at the time of adoption; this is an additional cost.
